Candela is a latin
jazz sextet created by the percussionist Wouter Helmig.
The amusement of this band is to deliver latin jazz in a
way which makes it interesting not only for those who enjoy
listening Latin Jazz, but also for those who like dancing
to the latin jazz beats.
The name of the band “
Candela” stands
literally for fire, but in latin slang it also refers to
“passion” and “enthusiasm”. Do you
feel like dancing on a mix of afro, mambo, bossa, and jazz
or prefer chilling with a glass of wine while enjoying some
good music? For both options, Candela makes it possible.
The music and performance of Candela is therefore suitable
for festivals, jazz clubs, café’s as well for
receptions and (company) parties. The repertoire of Candela
contains classical latin jazz standards such as Afro Blue
and Manteca. Also modern Latin jazz is part of the repertoire,
with songs from Cuban composers such as Orlando Valle ‘Maraca’,
‘El Indio’ and Tony Martinez(listen to
"Pa'lo
Latino"). And ofcourse ¡Candela! also plays own
songs (listen to
"Last
Minute", written by Micha Schellhaas).
